Change is one of the only constants in life. Regardless of how we feel about it, change happens. The world keeps spinning and life keeps accelerating around us. We go from single to married. From no kids to too many. From minimum wage jobs to positions of leadership. As we get older, nothing stays the same. Our friendships change, our goals change, our homes change and the list goes on.
I have been thinking on this topic of change quite a lot in the last couple weeks. So much so, that I have actually started to develop a mantra that I believe applies to every part of my life. Although I cannot control change, I can control myself. I do have power over my thoughts and my actions today.
Create value. Pursue growth.
This is a banner I will wave for the rest of my life. Create value, pursue growth. No matter where you are in life, if you can create value, you will find yourself in-expendable. No matter how much you think you lack, if you can pursue growth, you will consistently have something of value to offer.
As a dad and husband, it’s my desire to continue to create value and pursue growth. How do I do that? By creating moments with my wife and kids, by being present, by listening and by swallowing my pride and living for them.
As a business owner and professional, it’s my desire to create value to pursue growth. I accomplish this by focusing on the value that I bring to my clients and my community. I surround myself with like-minded individuals who are also wanting to grow. I continue learning the skills I need to be successful. As the needs and pains of my clients evolve, I evolve too.
How do we prevent stagnation in our lives? How do we battle boredom? How do we level up? I believe it is all about how much we give. If we aren’t seeking growth then we will eventually have nothing of value to offer. If we aren’t creating value then our learning is for naught.
Let’s be givers. Let’s create value. Let’s pursue growth.
